Automobiles in Germany's Town Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police stated they were notified by a man who discovered a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored fluid

Around 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Cars, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.

The fluid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.

Law enforcement then located numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say initial examinations indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.

"Currently there is no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for tips.

An important political figure commented the vandalism made him without words and had to be solved rapidly.

"This incident affects the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting people of migrant background in five years prior.
